The Master in Data Management and Curation (MDMC) is a one-year, intensive advanced training programme focused on the organisation, management, and long-term preservation of data. Internationally referred to as a “Master”, it is formally classified in the Italian system as a postgraduate advanced training course.
Jointly organised by SISSA and Area Science Park in Trieste, the programme combines academic knowledge with practical experience in real-world data environments. It covers the full data lifecycle, from creation and documentation to preservation, sharing, and reuse, with a strong emphasis on open science, FAIR data principles, and data stewardship.
In today’s data-driven landscape, where Artificial Intelligence increasingly relies on high-quality and well-managed data, the programme prepares a new generation of data professionals capable of supporting research and innovation across academic, institutional, and industrial contexts.
The MDMC focuses on the full lifecycle of data, from its creation and organisation to its preservation, sharing, and reuse. Students learn how to design effective data management strategies, apply international standards, and work with tools and infrastructures for data curation.
